Broken for You

Mark 14:21 - 22 “Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.”
Imagine training inside of the dojo and you are preparing for your next belt test. Most of us have had a situation where we have a technique or two that seemed nearly impossible to master. Our frustration might have been so high, that we feel like we are at our breaking point. I know I have been there many times. I can remember sitting on the dojo floor in defeat because I couldn’t master my flying spinning sidekick. I was so upset at myself because I felt like that feeling of brokenness was a sign of failure; that I should stop trying because nothing was going to help me. However, I had an amazing instructor and some amazing classmates that mended my brokenness. They taught me that my wounds will heal and I will be much stronger than before. It’s like having a broken bone. It will hurt in the beginning, but as time and support heals the wound, the bone becomes stronger than before. Yes, there are still going to be things that will take us to our breaking point, and sometimes even break us. However, it’s very important to remember that even though we might break down, it doesn’t mean that we are a failure. Take that brokenness, find support to help mend it, and become stronger than before. We are a martial arts family. We are here to support each other in our brokenness.
Even though we can recover with our brokenness in the martial arts, we cannot do the recovering from our spiritual brokenness. Our friends cannot do it, our family cannot do it, nor can anyone else mend the brokenness that we all suffer. The guilt, the sin, the burdens that we carry in our lives weighs heavily on us, causing us to be spiritually broken. The scary thing about it is that time alone cannot mend our spiritual brokenness. As time ticks away, we walk in a path towards damnation. We cry out in spiritual pain, praying that the pressure from our brokenness will be lifted off of our shoulders. Thankfully, we have a God that hears our cries of pain. He gave us his Son. Jesus told us in Mark that he gave us His body in remembrance of Him. The breaking of bread symbolizes the breaking of his body on the cross. He took all of our guilt, sin, and burdens with Him and became broken for us. It doesn’t end there. Jesus’ brokenness mends our brokenness, knowing that His death on the cross took everything away. His was broken so our spiritual life can be strengthened through Him. My prayer is that God will help you in your times of brokenness and remind you that Jesus has done it all. By his wounds, we are healed!
